Shay Brown ~
Shay Brown Events Management ~ Owner
Creative Visionary ~ Wedding Planner
Growing up in the mountains of NC, Shay was naturally drawn back to her roots. The majestic mountains of Highlands & Asheville NC were always home to Shay. During her professional career as a Lobbyist she developed a love for working with people. Shay is focused on getting to know individuals on a personal level. Understanding the layers that make up someone is fascinating to her.
Shay started Shay Brown Event 20 years ago because she felt that there was a major element missing in the wedding & event planning industry and that was customer service. Shay’s goal and her team’s goal is to understand each client’s needs, passions, likes and dislikes and tailor the event to fit their genuine personality. She truly believes that each event should reflect the character of the client not the desire of the planner and that is what sets Shay Brown Events apart from others - we listen to you.
Shay has surrounded herself with an amazing, talented and professional staff that delivers each element of the planning process with the same quality and detail that Shay has worked so hard to instill within the company. The Shay Brown Events team finds inspiration and delight in working together to create an amazing experience for each and every client. Shay has worked for many years consulting venues on the what works and does not work in the profession and has started Shay Brown Events Management Group that is a Venue Management Group and they are very honored to manage: Asheville Masonic Temple, Asheville Art Museum, Catawba Brewing, Morris Hellenic Cultural Center, Olivette and The Horse Shoe Farm.
Shay is very passionate about a lot of things in life - hiking, books, cooking, friends but most of all my family and furbabies (Hazel, Eastwood, Max, Onyx and Addy). One of Shay’s Biggest Passions – Food and Wine, became a dream this year, when she was asked to be Festival Director for Chow Chow Asheville.
You will find in working with the SBE team that you will be treated like family and the best compliment that we can ever receive is for your family to enjoy the time with you during your special day. We are blessed to have an amazing Team of Wedding Professionals and because of our diversity, I am positive we will have the perfect fit in a planner to assist you with your wedding coordination, event design and planning.
Amy Wood ~ Wedding Planner
Chief of Perfection & Pretty Things
I am simultaneously thrilled by Excel spreadsheets and peonies. Is there really any other calling for such a gal? My love of planning (and pretty things) traces back to my grandmother. I was born in her house and am bound to her in a special way. She taught me hospitality, graciousness, and the love of flowers. Today, I wear the wedding ring she wore for over 60 years. When I make my final table inspections, perfecting place settings and floral arrangements, making sure everything is just right, she’s with me.
My early work involved non-profit event planning and retreat counseling. In those roles I perfected the 5 P’s: “Prior planning prevents poor performance.” Of course, then there’s the flipside — “We plan and God laughs.” As an event manager for Shay Brown Events, you have to be master of both. Some events unfold like a lazy summer river, while others are ready to overflow the bank. Through it all, I am the watchful guardian on the sides ready to attend to the need before it even manifests.
A wedding is one of the most special, joyous days that will occur in a couple’s lifetime — but it can also generate some intensely stressful moments, both for the couple and their family. Throughout the day (and the days leading up to the day) my role shifts from coordinating to counseling to budgeting to designing to cheerleading, and back again. Just as every couple is unique, every wedding a carries unique set of joys and challenges. My role is to handle every detail with heart, and attend to the soul of the marriage. My work at SBE allows me to spend time with the prettiest thing of all: love.
Other things I love (besides Excel spreadsheets and peonies): flowers of any type, flowering trees of any type, gardening, walking in the woods, swimming in rivers lakes and oceans, my kitty-cats, amazing vistas, quiet calm and peace wherever I can find it!
Annalise Patel ~ Wedding Associate
Hi everyone! I’m Annalise Patete and I’m so thrilled to be a part of the SBE Team! I grew up here in Asheville, so I get to spend my summers at home in the mountains. Currently, I study business administration and minor in studio art at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I’m interested in marketing especially because it combines both the creative and analytic sides of the business to help solve problems.
My parents are both artists, so creating beautiful things was a huge part of my childhood. I particularly love working behind the scenes to ensure that everything works seamlessly. In high school, I was the stage manager for our school musicals, a role similar to wedding planning in some ways; then throughout my summers in college, I’ve had the opportunity to plan four weddings on my own. I still have a lot to learn, and I’m excited to work alongside these ladies to plan your perfect day!
